Introductory with Mary or Maggie
An introduction to the Iyengar method for students new to yoga, or to our style.

Asana (Posture)

Level I

Level I classes introduce beginning students and students new to the Iyengar approach to the fundamentals of posture and breath. As a general rule, we do notpermit beginners to enroll after the fourth week of the session.

Level I/II

Level I/II classes are for students who have completed Level I and prefer a gradual transition to Level II. This level is also ideal for those with previous yoga experience who are new to the Iyengar approach.

Level II

Level II Classes are for the students who have completed the introductory (Level I) course. The basic poses will be refined with an emphasis on all the standing poses. Inverted poses (headstand, plow, and shoulderstand) will be introduced.

Level II/III

Level II/III classes are, as the name suggests, combined classes for students of both levels.

Level III

Level III classes are for students with previous Iyengar training who are strong in standing poses and can do headstand, shoulderstand, and plow with confidence.

Pranayama (Breathing)

Level I

The Level I class affords those people who are seriously interested in working with breath an opportunity to move beyond the elementary levels that have been incorporated into the regular asana classes. A minimum of one year of study and practice of asana in the Iyengar method is required before enrolling in the pranayama class.

Level II, III, IV

Level II, III, IV classes are for students who have completed the preceding levels.

Level V

Level V is strictly for students who have completed Level IV or have received extensive Iyengar training in pranayama elsewhere.

Level VI

Level VI classes are for students who have extensive Iyengar training and have been practicing digital pranayama for three years or more.

Special Classes

Gentle Class

Gentle Classes are for new or continuing students who, because they may be stiff, not very strong, or have a particular limitation, would prefer and/ or benefit from a more slowly paced, less rigorous class. Appropriate for pre- and postnatal students as well. May be joined at any time.

Caring for Your Low Back

This course is open to new and continuing students who are experiencing back pain. Physician recommendation strongly suggested.
